A Tale of Fostering Professional Growth

We enjoy telling the inspiring stories of CBE employees and the road they’ve traveled with our company. I am pleased to share today’s story about Dan Rohrs. Dan has been at CBE for four years and has played a vital role as Vice President, Assistant General Counsel. Dan’s passion for compliance policy, regulatory compliance and protecting CBE’s brand did not go unnoticed in our talent pipeline.

We interviewed Dan and this is what he had to say:

Why do you stay at CBE?
There are a multitude of good reasons to stick with CBE.  CBE is a thought leader and its brand is highly respected by clients, competitors and regulators alike.  I am fortunate to be surrounded by a team of consummate professionals committed to building and maintaining the strongest compliance management system in the industry.  Each day is filled with new challenges and the opportunities for professional growth are limitless.  On top of all that, the Cedar Valley is an outstanding place to raise a family.

Why did you join CBE?
I started my career at a local law firm as an attorney prosecuting residential mortgage foreclosures.  After a few years of working almost exclusively in the mortgage space, I had a desire to gain exposure to a broader swath of the account receivables industry.  CBE is well diversified and has a sterling reputation as a company on the cutting edge, committed to treating clients, employees and consumers with the utmost integrity.  By coming to CBE I knew I would be surrounded by leaders that would challenge me and foster my professional growth.

What have you learned while working at CBE?
Don’t blink.  The regulatory and operating conditions of this industry change very quickly, placing agility at a premium.  However, the consequences of a misstep are substantial.  As such, a good compliance department needs to operate at a pace of deliberate swiftness, as contradictory as that may seem.  Also, intentional interdepartmental communication is essential to ensure policies and processes are implemented and functioning as intended.

Where do you see the company going over the next five years? What is your role in getting there?
I foresee the next five years marked by controlled, responsible growth that will solidify CBE’s position as the industry’s most respected, innovative, reliable and profitable outsourcing partner.  This growth, coupled with a highly dynamic legal and regulatory environment, will challenge the compliance team to ensure CBE’s compliance management system evolves to meet the needs of a larger company.  As CBE continues to grow in size and stature, it is important to keep in mind external threats seeking to damage the CBE brand will also increase.  Compliance will play a vital role in protecting CBE’s brand from such threats.
